21st century switching

The Telstar VSS has all of the features that you've come to expect from your current carrier switch (DMS100, Metaswitch, Ribbon, Netsapiens) but is configured through a unique infrastructure as code engine. The entire switch config, from translations to lines to recordings is managed through a single human and machine readable YAML file, enabling the same automation and DevOps tooling that has become standard in IP network operations. Every configuration change is assigned a unique revision id and stored separately. Once you've logged a configuration change into the system, applying or rolling it is as simple as making a web request. Since all config data is stored in a text-based format, configs can simply be diffed to find the location of a problematic change, enabling instant remission. A Friday night config change will never cause a mad scramble to the CO again.

End routing mysteries

See why every call routed the way it did. The 1VSS records every routing rule and translation used to route a call, allowing easy and simple debugging. In the event of a call not routing properly, or a certain dialing pattern exhibiting aberrant behavior, examining the route log will show the call's exact path through the switch, and highlight all rules and trunk groups that were matched. Problems can be diagnosed and fixed without time consuming and difficult manual test-and-trace work. Call CDRs also log PDD, media quality, signalling IPs and everything else you need to debug a call, on a per-leg basis.

Reliability from the ground up

Our system is built from the ground up with reliability as an iron law. All hosted services are deployed on an anycast network, with multiple running regions. Our system has no master region, with all regions capable of offering all services independently. We provide a single set of SIP signaling IP addresses that is spanned across the entire country, automatically routing your own and your customer's traffic to the lowest latency zone, keeping voice quality high. In the event of a site failure for any reason, traffic is seamlessly rerouted to the nearest operating site, making any outage invisible.

Core carrier features

Our system is built from the ground up for regulated carriers and ISPs, containing the routing and compliance features that you've come to expect. Translations can match LATA, OCN, Rate Center, LRN, or dialed number and matches can be made using asterisk-style patterns or full regex. Each line or trunk can be assigned to an independent translation chain. Local Number Portability data is sourced directly from NPAC nightly. The 1VSS supports STIR/SHAKEN signing and certificate management. A full inheritance tree for all translation and resource types is supported, allowing for easy deployment of sub-carriers or hosted PBX products.

Anycast: How it works

The Cordboard VSS system is fully masterless, with no master site or region. All sites are identical and interchangeable. Anycast routing automatically pins new calls to the nearest location, ensuring that media stays low-latency and responsive, and since all sites share the same signalling IP and sync registrations, inter-site routing is eliminated.

Configuration sync is handled through a realtime database shared by all sites, eliminating config sync time and ensuring that routing and customer settings changes apply everywhere, instantly. Atomic config apply and rollback-on-fail ensures that your switch never results in a customer-facing outage.
